May is here. May be it's a good time to pay attention to something like creativity. Free illustrated PDF of May here from me to you.
When I'm paying attention, ideas are whispered or sometimes shouted at me. This kind of shouting I like. I listen. Paying attention to where we get inspiration, which ideas energize us, and our own favorite creative quirks are good ingredients for creativity.
Aha-phrodite, The Muse of Paying Attention, is the first Muse I introduce in my book The Nine Modern Day Muses (and a Bodyguard).
She teaches this:
"If we pay attention to the present moment, we discover that inspiration is not elusive or out of reach. An unfathomable amount of it is already right in front of us. Everything from the way the light dances on a sparrow’s feathers to the music in a child’s laughter can become the art of our lives and the substance of artistic expression. In this consciousness, the passion for the creative process is irresistible. Joy is a byproduct"
Here are some questions from Aha-phrodite I occasionally use.
They buffer up both my creativity and my motivation to engage in it:
There's inspiration right in front of me.. what is it? (consider asking that now)
How can I pay more attention to my creative strengths?
Look Up
Here's a little recorded message inspired by Aha-phrodite, a 2:25 listen called
The Kaizen-Muse that instigates creativity in the KMCC training also implores us to pay attention to:
What worked in the past?
If you procrastinate, are resistant, overwhelmed, or don't know where to start, chances are that's happened to you in the past and you've gotten through it. Pay attention to your past successes by asking, What worked then? or What else might work?Credit Report
Pay attention to what you HAVE gotten done. Do a credit report. Make a list of what you're glad you did in the last few days or what you've gotten done on a project you're interested in. Pay attention to where you are getting it right.. it fuels your belief in yourself and that in turn, fuels your creativity.
Stay fluent in creative output by steering your attention away from the tendency to criticize yourself ... even if it's a little at a time.
Those are some of the simple tools in Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coaching that along with mindfulness, imagination, intuition, and the science of kaizen help us make profound progress in our quest to make creativity a bigger.
If you want to take a deep dive into your creativity this summer, join me June-October for the KMCC training. You can take it to learn how to work with others but I guarantee you, your own creativity will reach a higher plane. You can also just take it for you.
From a current student
"I am writing today to say that the reason I am doing well is because of your excellent teaching. I wouldn’t be doing as well if you hadn’t set up the KMCC program to support students in a step wise fashion, with plenty of repetition and the scaffolding of kindness. I can incorporate KMCC tools and concepts naturally because of the way you teach them.
As you may remember, I do have life coaching training so I am able to compare. No, wait, there is no comparison. Your training is the best by far." ~Alice Brock, Energy Healer, Kaizen-Muse Coach in training
