Your artwork in this made me want to put on the yellow and white checked dress my Mum made when I was twenty, living in a capital City, and had no fields of daisies available to frolick in (she also hand stitched white daisies on said dress and handpainted each centre vibrant yellow). She was indeed an ángel and fiercely protective of her creativity in an incredibly busy family and work life.
Yes, your art work is gorgeous and your words... Just amazing Jill. Thank you once again for what you bring to our world :)
I definitely needed to hear this! Rather than taking a break from writing because I just haven’t had time to breathe, I have been thrashing a whip upon my creative voice as she shrinks beneath the stripes of demand. She won’t speak (gee I wonder why)? I’ve realized I need to set it aside as I contend with the massive plate in front of me which is just about cleaned up. Trying to do it all just seems to produce chaos! I appreciate the “permission” to sit with Lull, put the whip down and breathe! Thank you!
At nearly 77, I've finally reached a stage when my entire day is a creative balance between activity and rest. The Muse is strong with this one. Thank you for reaffirming my indulgent lifestyle. This is the one thing about being old that is really cool.
I want a hammock under a pepper tree. (sigh). Thank you for the Lull reminder. So important. And actually I do know a nearby pepper tree that has a bench under it where I can lull for a while.
And I was just thinking the same thing, I am in need of a break from routine. Currently in my cabin doodling on my iPad, reading magazines, and watching the rain.
I especially love the part about how you revisit old work to remind yourself who you are when things get too tight and belabored. What a wonderful way to take a break…revisiting your past self through your previous creative work.
Best public service announcement ever? Haha.. I walk past my sketchbooks and grumble at myself for not having picked up a pencil or brush in weeks. I guess I needed to be given permission to just lean into "It". For now, Lull is in the house.. 🤷🏼♀️
Decades ago, a wonderful therapist of mine literally wrote me a permission slip to relax because I needed it in writing. I had to reach my late '60s to stop with the workaholic driven stuff. Not completely, of course! May you get some good rest.
Love that Gertrude Stein quote. (as a sister genius, ha). I remember reading Billy Collins' poems and seeing that he spends a lot of time wandering around his room and gazing out of windows. Oh! That is what poets do!

Well, judging by this comment, you bring kindness and light into the world, Melanie. Thank you for that.

Glad I wrote it just for this reason.
Thank you! I’m glad too! 😊
Your drawings and paintings are such a delight! Just finished a painting and am so happy to have a break to recharge!
Here’s to recharging.. thanks Ellen. I’d love to see what you painted.
You made my day!:). I’d love to share it, but I guess I can’t paste it onto my comment. It has a backstory to it and it’s a doozy!
Thank you! I take this as a permission to take it easy instead of fighting my way back into the normal routine after the journey I just took.
Small steps. :)

It is REALLY cool. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. You’ve earned it.

See you in 14 days!

Wonderful! 🎉🫶🏼💕
Thank you Ms Qilligan!

Huzzah!
Yup! I’m not 100% sure what that means but it sounds fun! 😂🥳
It’s like Cheers! But from ancient times. ;)
I love that Lull isn't being portrayed as the absence of creativity, but as one of its collaborators. This was so comforting to read, just wonderful!

Sometimes I welcome sleepless nights, because some of my most creative ideas, come at 2AM between the sheets !
I love doing nothing—and then resting afterward.

I believe Lull has a major place on my Muse shrine…or maybe that one is Procrastination…
I find it hard to tell the difference sometimes.
